Zarif Asks for Brunei’s Increased Investment in Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Brunei’s new ambassador to Tehran Abdul Samad Metasan called for the expansion of economic ties with Brunei, AVA Diplomatic reports.
“The rise in investment by Brunei’s investors in Iran will pave the way for the expansion of economic ties between the two countries,” Zarif said during the meeting in Tehran on Saturday.
The Iranian ambassador pointed to the age-old Iran-Brunei relations, and said, “As Iran and Brunei are two member-states of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the two countries’ cooperation can be defined within an international framework.”
The Brunei ambassador, for his part, pointed to the status quo in his country’s relations with Iran, and said, “It is an honor for me to begin my work as Brunei’s envoy to Tehran.”
In a message in February, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani extended his congratulations to Bruneian king Hassanal Bolkiah on the country’s national day, and called for enhanced ties between the two Muslim nations.
In his message, the Iranian president expressed the hope that the two countries would work for materialization of their joint objectives and shared interests.
He further wished prosperity and success for the nation and government of Brunei Darussalam.
Also in February, the Bruneian King in a message to the Iranian president urged further consolidation of relations and cooperation with Iran.
In his message, Bolkiah congratulated President Rouhani on the anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and asked for the further expansion of all-out relations between the two nations.
