Press Report: Tourism Malaysia Senior Official Highlights 2026 Plans at Tehran Press Conference

Tehran, Iran – As reported by Ava Diplomatic, Mr. Libra Haniff, Senior Deputy Director of the International Promotion Division (Asia/Africa) at Tourism Malaysia, outlined the country’s tourism plans for 2026 and efforts to attract Iranian tourists at a press conference held at the Espinas International Hotel in Tehran on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The event coincided with the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition (TITE) 2025.
Addressing members of the Iranian media, Mr. Haniff expressed his pleasure at participating in TITE and highlighted Malaysia’s latest tourist attractions and strategies for attracting international visitors.
Mr. Haniff emphasized the importance of the Iranian tourism market for Malaysia, stating, “Returning to Tehran for TITE is always a pleasure, as it has consistently helped us raise Malaysia’s tourism profile and promote Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings.”
He then introduced some of Malaysia’s newest attractions, including the Eagle’s Nest Skywalk in Langkawi, the new shopping destination The Exchange TRX, and the iconic Merdeka 118 Tower, noting, “These new attractions, combined with our stunning beaches, breathtaking mountains, and jungles teeming with activities, will ensure an unforgettable travel experience.”
Mr. Haniff also detailed Malaysia’s plans for attracting international tourists in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026, saying, “We aim to increase international tourist arrivals as we anticipate a projection of 35.6 million arrivals with RM147.1 billion in tourism receipts in 2026.”
He further announced collaborations with several Middle Eastern airlines to boost arrivals from Iran, adding, “Such collaborations will benefit the Malaysian economy and foster stronger economic ties between Malaysia and this region via tourism.”
During the Q&A session, Mr. Haniff responded to journalists’ questions. Regarding new incentives for Malaysia’s 2026 tourism development program, he highlighted the (GSPC) or International and Charter Aviation Matching Grant, explaining, “This initiative provides financial incentives to airlines and charter operators, encouraging the launch of new flight routes or increasing flight frequencies to Malaysia.”
When asked about Malaysia’s tourism potential, he cited its cultural diversity, natural beauty, island escapes, shopping and entertainment options, historical sites, and friendly locals, concluding, “Malaysia, with its diverse attractions, is an appealing destination for tourists with varied interests.”
Mr. Haniff concluded the press conference by thanking the Iranian media for their continued support in promoting Malaysia and expressed his hope for continued collaboration in the years to come.
