Graduate students of international law navigate the UN online at Qom

Department of law of the University of Tehran Farabi Campus at Qom in cooperation with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) held a workshop entitled “Finding UN Information and Documentation” for some 30 graduate students of international law on 18 February 2015. The workshop was conducted by UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, AVA Diplomatic reports.She elaborated on some basic facts about the UN, and how to find and retrieve UN information on the UNIC, the UN in Iran, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library (DHL) page on the web. Overview and searching through some of DHL resources and databases including UNBISNET, Official Document System (ODS), UN Info Quest were among the programme of the workshop. The focus was made on UN bodies related to international law such as General Assembly Sixth Committee(Legal), International Law Commission (ILC) and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). Treaty Collection and UN Audiovisual Library of International Law were among the legal resources introduced to the participants.
They learnt how to locate a multilateral treaty, its status and the related reservations. Persian copies of UN Charter and UDHR were distributed among the participants.
Two of the participating professors namely Dr. Tabatabaei who was the organizer of the joint event and Dr. Ibrahim-Gol expressed their satisfaction about the programme and said that it was very useful for the students to get more familiar with the UN website and DHL page on the web. They also hoped to have more cooperation with UNIC during the current year which marks 70th anniversary of the United Nations.
