Finding UN information and documentation on “outer space” through the UN website
UNIC held a Finding UN information and documentation training session with a focus on outer space law upon the request of some 30 students of international law, international relations and political science, on 16 July 2018 at the UN building, AVA Diplomatic reports.
UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami as the facilitator, introduced the research guides of Dag Hammarskjold Library (DHL) on international law and the document symbols.
Overview and searching through some of DHL resources and databasesincluding UNBISNET, Official Document System (ODS), were discussed. There was also a navigation through theUN Audiovisual Library of International Law.
Then among the United Nations family in Vienna, Ms. Ghaemmaghami focused on Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA).
Through UNOOSA she introduced and navigated the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS). Space law publications were introduced to the participants. She also navigated through UNIDIR website, emerging security threats and outer space security.
Ms. Zahra Babania who coordinated participation of the students, expressed her own and the participants’ satisfaction with the training session.
Copies of the UN Charter and the UN System Chart in Persian were distributed among the participants as well as the card with UNIC social media accounts.
