Promotion of the 70th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The UN Information Centre (UNIC) held workshop on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” with a focus on human rights on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) for some 15 graduate and post-graduate students of human rights and international law from the Shahid Beheshti University, Qom Islamic Azad University and Islamic Azad University-Central Tehran Branch at the UN building on 27 May 2018, AVA Diplomatic reports.
In the framework of the public awareness campaign, dedicated to the 70thanniversary of the Universal Declaration on the Human Rights, UNIC Reference Assistant Ms Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani introduced the human rights section on the UNIC bilingual webpage. She also introduced “Protect Human Rights” webpage as well as “Human Rights” webpage among global issues and Dag Hammarskjold Library (DHL) research guide on UN Documentation: Human Rights. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) was navigated and the students learned to use treaty based and charter based bodies documents databases separately.
UN Audiovisual Library of International Law,was navigated with focus on human rights in historic archive including the procedural history of the UDHR. Students became aware of the drafting process of UDHR. She also emphasized on universality of the UDHR. From the same website, she introduced the Proclamation of Tehran and the introduction note on it by Dr Djamchid Momtaz, former Chairman of the International Law Commission.
Persian copies of UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN System Chart were distributed among the participants.
Mr Mohammad Rezazadeh, one of the Ph.D students, found the workshop very useful and said: “Our Professor Dr Mashhadi has made it mandatory for all of us to participate in this workshop. He believes it paves the way to find needed UN information, specifically for preparation of our dissertations.”
