Iran Calls for Expansion of Ties with Norway

Iranian Vice-President for Legal Affairs Elham Aminzadeh in a meeting with Norwegian Ambassador to Tehran Aud Lise Norheim on Sunday called for the further broadening of mutual cooperation, AVA Diplomatic reports.

“Iran welcomes further expansion of cooperation with Norway in political, economic and cultural fields,” Aminzadeh said during the meeting in Tehran today.

She underlined a bright future for the two countries’ ties through interaction in cultural, social, legal and energy fields.

The Iranian vice-president pointed to the West’s support for the terrorist factions in the region, and said, “I hope that the western countries will relinquish their support for the terrorist groups.”

The Norwegian ambassador, for her part, pointed to the status quo of Oslo-Tehran mutual cooperation, and said, “The time is now ripe for improving Norway-Iran relations and the two countries will have high-level negotiations in the near future.”

She expressed the hope that Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany) would strike a final deal and the sanctions imposed against Iran would be lifted.

Norheim also underlined willingness of the Norwegian academic centers to broaden cooperation with Iran, and said, “While we can have good cooperation in fishery areas with Iran, our universities are willing to cooperate with Iran in scientific and cultural fields.”

In September, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Norwegian counterpart discussed ways to promote all-out relations between the two nations.

In a meeting in New York, the two top diplomats stressed the need for both Tehran and Oslo officials to do their best to utilize each and every capacity and potential to widen and deepen their relations in all sectors.

Iranian and Norwegian officials have in recent years boosted their efforts to further expand relations between the two countries in different fields.
