 UNODC Country Representative And Deputy General Prosecutor Discussed Modalities Of Cooperation On Combating Transnational Organized Crimes And Applying Criminal Justice

Mr. Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Iran Country Representative and Mr. Saeed Omrani, Islamic Republic of Iran Deputy General Prosecutor, met and discussed on modalities of cooperation on combating transnational organized crimes and criminal justice, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Mr. Omrani outlined the subjects of transnational organized crimes and drugs as two key topics within the global agenda that have raised high concerns among member states and require worldwide consensus on tackling them effectively and efficiently. He believed national and international efforts should have specific and more focus on technical requirements without politicizing such measures. He shared information on mandates of the General Prosecutor Office and its responsibilities in various domestic forums. While referring to national legislative and operational developments in the areas of transnational organized crimes and criminal justice, he highlighted the exclusive roles of General Prosecutor Office as the one that holds legal backbone for adopting policies and mandates to apply operational measures, and supervisory role to advise other partner-institutions to apply judicial and legal measures. He referred to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as a reliable and technical partner, supporting national efforts on combating transnational organized crimes and applying criminal justice measures rightfully.

Mr. Fedulov underlined the unique characteristics of UNODC Country Partnership Programme 2016-2019 in the Islamic Republic of Iran and referred to it as a modernized document, prepared in line with the national policy, operational measures, domestic requirements and international developments. He praised the efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran General Prosecutor Office in modernizing national legislation and operational measures in line with the United Nations’ standards and norms. He further emphasized on the importance of international relations and expressed his Office’s readiness to facilitate talks between Iran and international community on subjects of combating transnational organized crimes, crime prevention and criminal justice.
