Charity Ski Race in Dizin promotes International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028)

The United Nations Information Centre in Tehran (UNIC) jointly with RaikaTosee Kish Company organized a Charity Ski Race in the Dizin International Ski Resort on Friday, 9 March 2018, AVA Diplomatic reports.

This Ski Race was dedicated to the International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development (2018-2028). The Race was among the first activities around the globe to mark this important Decade. The Decade is going to be launched on March 22, World Water Day.

The Ski Race was also dedicated to the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, which is marked on April 6, in line with the UN General Assembly’s Resolution.

More than 200 participants enjoyed the ski race. Winners from all categories children, teenagers, adults (professionals and amateurs) got valuable awards from different sponsors, including free tickets to Europe from Ukraine International Airlines and free ski passes to Dizin International Ski Resort.

In her speech Dr.Maria Dotsenko, UNIC Director thanked Mr. Hamid Reza Tafteh, Chairman of the Board of Raika Tosee Kish Company and highlighted how much she appreciates his efforts, aimed at promotion of sports and responsible management of environment and rich ecosystems of Dizin Ski Resort area.

She also spoke about Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development, which focuses on the sustainable development and integrated management of water resourcesand reminded that each of us can take an action to protect these precious resources.

She congratulated the participants with the National Mother’s Day, which is marked on March 9 in Iran.

UNIC Director also thanked Mr. Hossein Mousavi, the Executive Manager of Raika Tosee Kish Company, for facilitation and organization of logistics of the race and to Mr. Reza Shakarami, the Prosecutor of Alborz Province, for his presence and support of the event.

Mr. Hamid Reza Tafteh, Chairman of the Board of Raika Tosee Kish Company, thanked the United Nations for their support and cooperation. He also thanked all sponsors of the event including; Dizin Sport, Pamchal Sport, Ukraine International Airlines and Raika Tosee Kish.

All proceedings from the event will go to the Iranian charity, “Roshd Charity Foundation”, which supports children in deprived areas of Iran.This Charity NGO is associated with the Department of Public Information of the UN.

The International Decade for Action: Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028 aims to further improve cooperation, partnership and capacity development in the area of sustainable management of water resources and ecosystems. Clean, accessible is critical water for sustainable development and the eradication of poverty and hunger, and it is indispensable for human development, health and well-being. There is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve this. But water related challenges, including limited access to safe water and sanitation, increasing pressure on water resources and ecosystems, and an exacerbated risk of droughts and floods, remain high on the global agenda.
