Joint workshop with Islamic Human Rights Commission

Some 16 lawyers, graduate students of human rights and international law learned more about human rights and how to navigate website of UN and Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) during a workshop organized jointly by the UN Information Center (UNIC) and the Islamic Human Rights Commission on April 30, at the central bureau of the Commission in Tehran, AVA Diplomatic reports.
By referring to human rights as one of the three main pillars of the UN, during navigation through the UN website, the participants got familiar with UN bodies related to human rights such as Human Rights Council and universal periodic review.
At the same time the participants got familiar with UN document symbols and learnt how to use databases such as Audiovisual Library of International Law. UN Dag Hammarskjold Library’s research guide on human rights was also introduced as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, its history and the challenges that the drafters had.
UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami, as the facilitator of the workshop, informed the participants that the UN General Assembly proclaimed 10 December as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Persian was distributed among the participants.
