 UNESCO Representative to Turkmenistan pays first official visit to Ashgabat

Ms. Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Tehran Cluster Office and UNESCO Representative to I.R. Iran and Turkmenistan traveled to Ashgabat from 12-15 January on her first official visit to Turkmenistan, AVA Diplomatic reports.

During her visit the UNESCO Representative met with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Education, as well as with the Turkmenistan National Commission for UNESCO. The fruitful discussions covered the wide range of UNESCO programs and both sides discussed and agreed upon the priority areas of collaboration between UNESCO’s Tehran Cluster Office and the Government of Turkmenistan.

Ms. Kuisch Laroche also had several meetings with the UN Resident Coordinator, UNICEF and UNDP to discuss the UNDAF priorities, planned activities and opportunities for partnership and joint programmes.

In addition to these meetings, the mission also included several cultural visits to the National Carpet Museum, the National Museum of History, and the Parthian Fortresses of Nisa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), where the UNESCO Representative was briefed on the history of the site and the conservation work that has been undertaken.
