Indonesian Ambassador to Iran expressed supports for the Caspian Sea Littoral States Legal Regime conventions which were signed recently by leaders of Iran, Turkmenistan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, AVA Diplomatic reports.
On the sidelines of the ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of Indonesia Independence Day on Friday, Octavino Alimudin said, ‘For sure, in terms of territory the same with Indonesia having borders with 10 countries, we have to sit down, negotiate and agree on the border delimitations or any border arrangements.
‘So when the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Caspian Sea Littoral States agreed to certain arrangements we still support that because it is good to make arrangements instead of just showing your capacities but you do not know where our territory is.’
He urged the Iranian side to negotiate and agree on the issue, saying ‘Since you agree with these arrangements then we will support any arrangements that you agree.’
Presidents of five Caspian Sea littoral states signed on August 12 the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea; a landmark instrument that is expected to expand good-neighborly relations among parties.
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry Center for Public Diplomacy and Media Affairs, around 90 percent of the Caspian Sea Legal Regime Convention has been addressed by the member states.
Only two issues – determining the base lines and delimitation of the remaining seabed and underground resources – need further negotiations, the statement said, expressing hope that these two issues will also become finalized with cooperation of all the member-states.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Alimudin referred relations between Iran and Indonesia saying that both countries are supporting each other in international fora.
‘We signed MoUs on child and women protection and we also talked about food and drug control,’ he reiterated.
The Indonesian envoy pointed to the visit made by Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar to Indonesia and also Indonesia ministerial visits to Iran, saying, ‘We hope that these visits and signing MoUs could be implemented in a concrete action so I could say that now we have the Asian Games in Jakarta.
‘We support the Iranian athletes,’ he added.
The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta Palembang 2018, is a pan-Asian multi-sport event scheduled to be held from August 18 to September 2, 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
