Umit Yardim, Turkish ambassador to Iran met and talked with the head of Iran customs administration, AVA diplomatic reports.Umit Yardim in the meeting with Masoud Karbasian criticized the failure to execute the agreement on using the joint border gateway and said the reason is an article regulated on the basis of WTO provisions; that is while Iran is not yet a member of WTO.
Karbasian emphasized that he has plans to tackle the issue and hopes there will not be any custom and border problems with Turkey and that Iran’s view on the custom relations of the two countries is beyond the joint border gateway.

Karbasian pointed to running a comprehensive electronic custom system in Iran and the online communication of Customs Administration and added: “commodity inspection can be performed in one strike and there remains no reason for our inspection on one side and the Turkish custom doing the same inspections”.
Umit Yardim pointed to the upcoming trip of Iranian president to Turkey and announced that the arrangements are made for signing 26 cooperation agreements in this trip. He added: “Signing the general custom agreement between Iran and Turkey is possible after the expert consultations”.
