 Iran, Mexico Ink MoU on Joint Trade Cooperation

Iranian and Mexican officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pave the way for the establishment of Iran-Mexico Joint Commercial Council in the near future, AVA Diplomatic Reports.Chairman of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafeyee and Iran’s Vice President for International Affairs Ali Akbar Farazi in a meeting with Mexican Ambassador to Tehran Ulises Canchola Gutierrez and CEO of the ProMéxico Investment Organization Francisco N González Díaz signed a MoU to ease economic transactions between two sides through establishment of a joint commercial council.

In the meeting, Shafeyee pointed to the one-century-old relationship between Iran and Mexico, and said, “Current level of relations is not desirable and it is lower than capacity of the two countries.”

He further appreciated the Mexican ambassador’s efforts and positive role in making these types of connections between both countries’ traders.

“Economic relations between the two countries is not that much as expected, and this relationship will be enhanced with support and cooperation of ICCIMA,” Diaz said for his part.

Gonzalez said the next delegation would visit the ICCIMA in November.

Iran has been seeking to broaden ties and cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean states, including Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Mexico and Colombia.

Iran’s strong and rapidly growing ties with Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US and its western allies since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate their relations with the other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
