Venezuelan ambassador explains history of Natives’ resistance in Arasbaran Culture Complex

The second edition of Latin American cultural festival, to commemorate the Day of Indigenous Resistance of Venezuela was held in Tehran’s Arasbaran Cultural Center. The festival was attended by the Venezuelan ambassador to Tehran and diplomats from other countries.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela’s ambassador to Iran Amenhotep Zambrano thanked Culture and Art Organization of Tehran City Hall, Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Iranian nation, before he asked his audience if they knew what happened in October 1492 in Latin America. “Some people think history is static but we want to show the opposite; that history can be viewed from different angels too,” he said.

“Through policy-making and cultural exchange, the day has been given different names; Argentina calls it Day of Cultural Differences while Bolivia calls it the Decolonization Day and it is known in Venezuela as Day of Indigenous Resistance”, he said, noting that the general attitude toward history has changed.

“We want to introduce all who brought honor and show our predecessors and honor to other nations. Now, with the help of Latin American countries, we are presenting a sample of handcrafts and other works of art to Iranians,” Zambrano said.

The Venezuelan envoy said he hopes the Week can further familiarize people with Latin American culture, reiterating “we try to exhibit symbols of our region’s indigenous people through photos, paintings and sculpture to present our culture and want to tell you about an unreported history showing the rhythm and color of our brothers who had African origin when they came to America,”.
