Australian Ambassador in Tehran Ian Biggs said on Saturday that Canberra strongly supports the landmark nuclear deal and considers it an opportunity for Iran’s progress and establishing peace in the region, AVA Diplomatic reports.
In a meeting with the head of Iran-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group Mahmoud Sadeqi, the Australian envoy stressed the need for promotion of bilateral ties in political, economic and parliamentary spheres.
The Australian government and Parliament lay special emphasis on expanding cooperation with Iran, Biggs said.
He also underlined continuation of consular talks between the two capitals to help solve problems facing Iranian migrants in Australia and bolster communications between the two countries’ scientific and academic centers.
Meanwhile, the Iranian side referred to ancient record of political and economic relations between Iran and Australia, saying that numerous opportunities in the various economic and industrial sectors have emerged in a new atmosphere which can be used in line with boosting bilateral relations and safeguarding the two countries’ national interests.
Sadeqi, also Tehran MP, added that parliamentary relations and establishment of parliamentary friendship groups in the two countries’ legislative bodies will help consolidate exchanges between Iran and Australia.
Criticizing US Congress ratification of sanctions against Iran, he said that the Congress enactments run against international regulations and US president cannot repudiate its commitments under historic nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Sadeqi who is a member of the Majlis Education and Research Commission, described promoting cultural and academic exchanges and exchange of instructor and students as an opportunity for forging further communication between the two countries.
