 Tehran, Canberra security forces are in direct contact: Australia envoy

Australia’s ambassador to Tehran Ian Biggs said security and military forces of Iran and Australia are having direct contact aiming to restore stability in the region, AVA Diplomatic reports.

In an exclusive interview with the Iranian Students’ News Agency, Biggs said the two countries unanimously agree that the current situation and war would not benefit the world, adding Australia is willing to cooperate with Iran to find ways to defeat Daesh through negotiations.

He went on to say that Australia is determined to take required steps to maintain security and stability in the region, stating that both countries can avoid any misunderstanding through close interaction.

 Referring to mutual trade ties between the two states, Riggs underlined that three Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) have been signed aiming to expand bilateral cooperation in trade and finance.

He expressed his country’s willingness to bolster ties in different sectors, adding private companies and incorporates are studying and seeking new opportunities in Iran to invest and open mutual cooperation.

Biggs also referred to Tehran, Canberra cooperation in aviation and said his country welcomes direct flights to Iran, and that negotiations are underway to increase it.
