Seminar and roundtable discussion on the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda

UNIC Tehran in cooperation with the Iranian International Studies Association (IISA) organized a seminar and roundtable discussion on the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda at the UN conference room on 17 April 2017, AVA Diplomatic reports.
The conference began by opening remarks of the IISA Secretary Dr. Seyyed Ziaoddin Saboori. Then UNIC Director Dr. Maria Dotsenko delivered the SG’s message on the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda.
The keynote speaker of the seminar was the Member of the Majlis (Parliament) and Spokesperson of the Human Rights Fraction of the Majlis Dr. Seyyed Ehsan Qazizadeh Hashemi who elaborated on the history and root causes of the Rwanda Genocide as well as punishment of those culprits who committed the crime of genocide.
He said what happened in Rwanda was defined as the genocide based on an ethnic superiority claim.
“What we should do today in order to prevent future genocides is to enhance and promote public knowledge about anti-genocide issues and minimize the existing sense of anger and revenge within the public belief,” he added.
The seminar ended with a lively roundtable discussion by the participants on how future genocides can be prevented.
Information and specially designed posters on Genocide in Rwanda and other promotional materials in Persian such as UDHR, UN Charter, UN System Chart and SDGs poster were distributed to the participants.
