Mofid University Human Rights Centre and UN Information Center (UNIC) Tehran on 6 February 2017 held a series of outreach activities aimed to raise awareness on UN and Sustainable Development Goals, AVA Diplomatic reports.
During workshop on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” more than 45 graduate students of the international law and human rights, political science and other fields from different universities across Iran in Qom city learn how to navigate UN web site.
The UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, who conducted this workshop, elaborated on some basic facts about the UN and briefed the audience about history of the UN.
The participants learned how to find and retrieve UN information on the UNIC, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web.
Overview and methods of searching through some of Dag Hammarskjold Library (DHL) resources and databases including UNBISNET, Official Document System , UN Info Quest were included in the program of the workshop.
The focus was made on UN bodies related to international law such as International Court of Justice, Treaty Collection and UN Audiovisual Library of International Law.
The participants learnt how to locate a multilateral treaty and its status. They also got familiar with 2030 agenda, Sustainable Development Goals especially Goal 16: peace, justice and strong institutions. Persian translations of the UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN system chart were distributed to the participant.
The exhibition of historic photos and documents illustrating more than 71 years of UN-Iran partnership was inaugurated by the UNIC Director, Dr. Maria Dotsenko and Director of the Mofid University LibraryDr. Alireza Maleki.
This exhibition is a joint project of the UN Information Centre and the MFA Centre for Documents and History of Diplomacy and is supported by IRNA news agency and Institute for Iranian Contemporary Historical Studies.
UNIC Director briefed the professors and students about the important role of Iran in establishment and strengthening of the UN and its current contributions to the promotion of peace and sustainable development. Iran is one of the UN founding Member States. Guests were toured around the exhibition, which was open for public for almost a week
The Deputy President of the Human Rights Centre Dr. Alireza Maleki who is also the Director of the Mofid University Library expressed his satisfaction from the joint activities and hoped to have more cooperation with UNIC Tehran.
