Students from Western Iran Learn more about International Law through UN Website

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) and the western branch of Iranian Association of UN Studies (IAUNS) jointly held “Finding UN Information and Documentation” workshop for some 30 post-graduate students of international law from the Islamic Azad University, Kermanshah Branch and some members of the Association on 8 May 2017 at the UN office in Tehran, AVA Diplomatic reports.

The workshop was conducted by the UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani. Students learned about some basic facts about the UN, and how to find and retrieve UN information on the UNIC, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library (DHL) page on the web. Overview and searching through some of DHL resources and databases including UNBISNET, Official Document System (ODS) and introducing UN document symbols were among the programme of the workshop.

There was a focus on International Court of Justice (ICJ), International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Treaty Collection and UN Audiovisual Library of International Law as well as the Security Council and International Law, General Assembly and International Law including the International Law Commission.   The participants learnt how to locate a multilateral treaty, its status and the related reservations.

Persian copies of UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN System Chart were distributed among the participants. A video on ICJ with Persian subtitles was screened for the group.

At the end of the session, the President of IAUNS Professor Nasrin Mosaffa joined the group and thanked UNIC for its continued cooperation.
