Navigating the UN website on Universal Children’s Day
Children and Youth Research Centre of Alzahra University with cooperation of United Nations Information Centre held a “Finding UN Information and Documentation” training session with a focus on children issues for some 30 students of different fields of studies at the faculty of Social Sciences and Economics on 20 November 2018. The session was organized on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day, AVA Diplomatic reports.
The session started with the welcoming words of the Chief of Children and Youth Research Centre Dr Mansoureh Azam Azadeh. Then, UNIC Reference Assistant Ms Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani as the facilitator of the training session briefed the participants on some basic facts about the UN. She introduced UN General Assembly and its 27th special session held on 2002, entitled World Summit for Children as well as Declarations and Conventions contained in the General Assembly resolutions on the subject of children such as Declaration of the Rights of the Child (20 November 1959) and Convention on the Rights of the Child (20 November 1989). There was a navigation on the webpage of the Security Council and its resolutions such as Resolution 2419 (2018) with a definition about “youth”.
There was also a review on the UN Observances related to the children and youth specifically the Universal Children’s Day. The page on “Children” among “Global Issues” was also introduced.
Some information material including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN System Chart as well as UNICEF-Iran brochure and book entitled “UNICEF in Iran: 70 Years for Every Child” were distributed among the participants. Some UNICEF videos were also screened. Dr Mansoureh Azam Azadeh expressed her satisfaction with the training session and hoped that Alzahra University can have more cooperation with UNIC.
