Three Mexican trade delegations due to Iran

Two Mexican trade delegations will visit Iran in the months of April/June while a larger delegation comprising economic officials and activists is expected to arrive in September/October, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Announcing this in a meeting with Valiollah Afkhamirad, Chairman of Iran Trade Development Organization, the Mexican Ambassador to Tehran Ulises Canchola Gutiérrez said his country is seeking to compensate for the slow pace in the relations with Iran.

He said Mexico is looking for finding grounds for further cooperation with Iran in order to increase the volume of its trade in the sensitive Middle East region.

Canchola referred to the areas apt for the expansion of Tehran-Mexico City relations and said through further interaction and cooperation of the officials and economic activists of the two countries bilateral relations will expand.

Meanwhile Afkhamirad said his organization is intended to increase Tehran-Mexico City cooperation and for the realization of this target will prepare the ground for the effective visits of the Mexican delegations to the Iranian industrial towns.

He said given Mexico’s policies to reduce economic dependence on oil, Iran is interested in the visit of the Mexican policy-makers to transfer their expertise in this regard.

Very low volume of trade and economic interactions between Iran and Mexico comes at a time when Mexico with the export of 1.3 million barrels of oil per day is among major oil exporters and the volume of its transactions in 2014 amounted to over $810 billion.
