 Workshop for NGO representatives at UN building on 3 and 4 August

Together with the cooperation of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), Naghshe Javid Institute and Iranian Federation of Tourist Guide Associations –organized a series of “Finding UN information” workshops for representatives of NGOs dealing with cultural heritage and tourism issues, AVA Diplomatic reports.

The first workshop in this series was held on 3 August at UN building.  Around 40 representatives of cultural heritage NGOs participated.  A second one occurred the next day (4 August) with 32 representatives of tourism NGOs.

The first workshop was begun with the opening remarks of representative of ICHHTO Mr. Meisam Varahchehr.  During both sessions UNIC National Information Officer Mr. Mohammad Moghadam briefed the participants with general information about Department of Public Information (DPI), UNIC activities and UN agencies in Iran.

The sessions continued with a workshop on “Finding UN information” organized by UNIC Reference Assistant Nazanin Ghaemmaghmi.She elaborated on basic facts about the UN, UN and civil society, DPI-NGO,

how to obtain ECOSOC consultative status from the UN website and how to find a definition and some documents on civil society, NGOs, ecotourism, cultural tourism, etc.

from UN Multilingual Terminology Database (UNTERM).UNESCO, UNWTO, UNEP and some other UN agency websites were also reviewed.The UNIC Office in Iran regularly organizes such training sessions for civil society partners in order to raise awareness about the UN and how to make its work more accessible to the general public.
