Azad Univ. Political Science students at UN conference room

UN Information Center (UNIC) Tehran together with the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Economics, Islamic Azad University, South Tehran Branch held a joint workshop on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” for some 25 students of political science accompanied by their 2 professors namely Dr. Roya Khezri and Dr. Reza Kaviani on 16 April 2015 at UN building conference room in Tehran, AVA Diplomatic reports.

The UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, who conducted this work shop, elaborated on the origin and history of the UN and introduced the United Nations Seventieth Anniversary website and read out the Secretary-General message on the 70th anniversary of the United Nations to the participants.

During the workshop the participants learned how to find and retrieve UN information on the UNIC, the UN in Iran, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web. The websites of the main organs of the UN especially the General Assembly and Security Council were introduced in detail.

Overview and methods of searching through some of Dag Hammarskjold Library DHL resources and databases such as UNBISNET and Official Document System (ODS) were included in the programme of the workshop. The students learned to find the text of resolutions of UN main organs, voting records and index to speeches (verbatim records) related to each resolution through UNBISNET. They also found out how to narrow a search on different subjects such as responsibility to protect (R2P) through ODS.

Dr. Khezri expressed her satisfaction from the workshop and hoped to have more cooperation with UNIC Tehran during the current year which marks 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

Workshops “Finding UN Information and Documentation” are regularly organized by the UNIC for all interested groups.
