 Tehran, Skopje Explore Broadening Relations

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Macedonian counterpart Nikola Poposki in a meeting in New York reviewed development of bilateral ties, AVA Diplomatic reports.

They reviewed development of ties including re-opening of the Slovenian embassy to Tehran and mutual support in international forums during this meeting on Tuesday.

Their talks also included the Syrian crisis and refugees, cooperation to establish peace and end clashes, and Iran’s plan for the settlement of the crisis by using diplomatic and non-military means.

Earlier in July, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov welcomed the Vienna nuclear agreement between Iran and Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plush Germany), and underlined the deal’s fruitfulness for the reinvigoration of regional and international security.

Speaking in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Macedonia Saeed Sadeq Mohammadi, the Macedonian president underscored that the deal would play a pivotal role for safeguarding peace and tranquility in the region.

He stressed that the full implementation of the agreement would lead to long-term viable economic cooperation and reinforcement of mutual trust instead of tension and sanctions.

Iran and the Group 5+1 reached an agreement on July 14 to resolve the 13-year-long standoff on Tehran’s nuclear program.
