Thai diplomat: Iran gateway to Central Asia

As a gateway to Central Asia, Iran has a great potential for economic cooperation, writes the Nation, quoting Thai ambassador to the Islamic Republic, AVA Diplomatic reports.
With a population of 80 million, Iran enjoys ‘advanced sciences and technology,’ the Bangkok-based newspaper further cites Rasmee Chittham as saying at a recent seminar on ‘The Opening of the Middle East Market and Integrated Strategy in Moving the Thai Economy’ in Thailand.
Referring to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear agreement with the world powers, the Thai diplomat said following the lifting of sanctions, trade ties could get great momentum.
‘Iran is in the process of having sanctions lifted. We anticipate huge trade and business opportunities within the country,’ Rasmee said, according to the newspaper.
‘The Iranian government has an open-door policy and a policy to explore investment and business opportunities in the East,’ he said. Rasmee asked the Thai government to seize the opportunity to boost trade with Iran.
‘The Thai government should group the country’s enterprises, especially small and medium-sized businesses, into clusters and move them together to cash in on trade and investment opportunities in Iran,’ he said.
The government should also act as their facilitator for such expansion abroad, Rasmee said.
