Irish Foreign Minister pointed to the importance of Tehran-Dublin relations and announced the impotency of the ministry for reopening the Irish embassy to Iran AVA Diplomatic reports.
Pointing to the investigations into reopening Dublin’s embassy in Tehran, Eamon Gilmore, Irish foreign minister said that lack of financial resources is the obstacle for the Ireland to have a diplomatic representative in Iran.
“Ambassador’s stay for a year in Tehran costs 500 thousand Euros. The current financial constraints does not allow us to cover the costs of the diplomatic representatives in all the cities of the world”, added Gilmore.
Irish foreign minister also welcomed Rouhani’s state inclination for the development of ties between Iran and EU; still he pointed that there are some groups in Iran that are not willing to reach a final nuclear agreement between Iran and G5+1.
Irish foreign minister also asserted that EU’s lifting of the imposed sanctions against Iran is the main reason of Dublin’s reconsideration for reopening its embassy to Iran.
It should be mentioned that in 2012 Ireland in a very unprecedented act closed its embassies to Tehran and Vatican and mentioned the lack of sufficient budget as the reason to this.
