UNICEF Iran Office Welcomes a New Representative

A new representative for UNICEF in the Islamic Republic of Iran has arrived in the country to start his job. A national of Sudan, Mr. Mohamed El Munir Safieldin today submitted his credentials to the Iranian Foreign Minister, his Excellency Ali Akbar Salehi, AVA Diplomatic Reports.In this meeting, the two sides discussed areas of mutual cooperation and the new Programme of Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and UNICEF starting January 2012. “I am privileged to be working in a country which has a long record of key achievements in the area of children rights and well-being”, said Mr. Safieldin in this meeting.

Mr. Safieldin  served as UNICEF Deputy Representative in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania from  July 2009 to November 2011. In this capacity, he has been responsible for the strategic planning, resources allocation, social policy analysis, results monitoring and evidence-based advocacy of the country programme.

From December 2006 to June 2009, Mr. Safiedin was the Regional Chief of Programme and Planning in the regional office of the Middle East and North Africa. In that capacity Mr. Safieldin provided technical support and guidance to 20 UNICEF Country Offices in the areas of strategic planning, social policy analysis, and programme design. Three years before that, he was Chief of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in UNICEF Office in Pakistan.

From September 2000 to August 2003, Mr. Safieldin served as Deputy Representative in Muscat, Oman, where he managed the country programme with a focus on policy analysis, capacity development and evidence-based advocacy.

Mr. Safieldin obtained his Masters degree in business administration from the University of Hull in UK, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Khartoum. In 1991, he completed one year of post graduate studies in Public Administration at the Woodrow Wilson School of public and international affairs of the Princeton University. Mr. Safieldin is soon due to have his Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis and Administration.
