 German Calls for Closer Relations with Iran

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has congratulated Hassan Rouhani on the start of his term as Iran’s president, calling for closer relations with Tehran, AVA Diplomatic reports.In a message to President Rouhani, the German chancellor expressed hope to see the opportunity arise during his tenure to deepen the existing cordial ties between the two nations.

Merkel’s message was submitted to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Western European Affairs Abolqasem Delfi by German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg on Wednesday.

In her message, Merkel stated that Rouhani’s election raises the hope for a new phase in constructive cooperation to help promote regional and international peace and security.

Germany will continue to cooperate with its international partners to help work out suitable solutions to the existing challenges, the message read.

Rohani took the oath of office on August 4, one day after being endorsed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
