Norwegian envoy meets Majlis’ National Security Committee chairman

Norwegian Ambassador to Tehran Jens-Petter Kjemprud visited the chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iranian Parliament (Majlis), AVA Diplomatic reports.During a meeting with the Norwegian ambassador to Iran, Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman Aladdin Boroujerdi said the Iranian parliament backs the new administration’s policy of expanding Iran’s friendly relations with European countries based on mutual respect and serving interests of the sides.

“Iran’s nuclear measures and activities are completely transparent without any ambiguities and under the supervision of the IAEA,” he said.

“Access to an atomic bomb has no place in Iran’s defense doctrine and Iran opposes the existence of even one nuclear bomb in the world,” Broujerdi added.

Speaking of Iran’s negotiations with the six world powers, the Iranian lawmaker said the recognition of Iranians’ right to peaceful nuclear energy and the lifting of oppressive unilateral sanction imposed against Iranians by the west is the least expectation our public opinion has for the future of the talks with P5+1 group.

Broujerdi also noted the regional developments particularly the Syrian crisis, saying Iran has supported a diplomatic solution since the beginning of the conflicts in Syria.

“The establishment of sustainable ceasefire and security and leaving the Syrian’s fate for themselves to decide will have a significant impact in creating peace until the 2014 election. Support for the establishment of peace and security in Syria by all the countries in the region and a consensus to end the bloodshed are among the ways through which Geneva II conference can reach a result desirable for all the sides involved,” he added.

Norwegian Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud, for his part, touched on the current cooperation level between Iran and Norway, saying Norway supports expansion of economic and commercial ties with Iran.

A solution for the Syrian crisis through diplomacy and dialogue in Geneva II has Norway’s support and is becoming increasingly popular, he said.
