Ketabraneh book club in partnership with UNIC Tehran commemorated Mother Earth Day at the Allameh Tabatabee High School on 1 May 2018, AVA Diplomatic reports.
UNIC Director Dr. Maria Dotsenko spoke about importance of preservation of Mother Earth and about history of this important UN observance.
She said: “Mother Earth is a common expression for the planet, which reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet we all inhabit. The Earth and its ecosystems are our home. It is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth and to preserve our planet for next generations. This Day is celebrated to remind each of us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us with life and sustenance.”
The General Assembly, in order to achieve a just balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of present and future generations, to promote harmony with nature and the Earth, and noting that Earth Day is observed each year in many countries, decided to designate 22 April as International Mother Earth Day through resolution A/RES/63/278, adopted in 2009.
International Mother Earth Day provides an opportunity to raise public awareness around the world to the challenges regarding the well-being of the planet and all the life it supports.
Ketabraneh Manager Ms. Sarvenaz Heraner in her speech said: “Whenever I hear about “Mother Earth”, I start thinking about the unconditional love a mother could offer her children and then it reminds me of a mother who is so giving and caring.”
“Regarding our mothers, we do know that if we ignore or hurt them, even unintentionally, we harm ourselves,” she said adding that Mother Earth is also of the same nature, we may harm it in a number of ways such as polluting its air, water and soil, killing its living creatures and species etc. but the consequences of all these wrong doings will eventually destroy us: “humans”.
The ceremony continued by Iranian poet Mr. Hiva Masih who recited tow of his poems on “Mother Earth” while two young Allameh Tabatabaee High School students Pooya Ghandchilar and Aria Faridian playing soft melody guitar.
