Banners displayed in Tehran to inform people on SDGs

Sustainable Development Goal’s (SDGs) banners in Persian are displayed in crowded streets of District 6 of Tehran, in order to inform people about SDGs, AVA Diplomatic reports.

These billboards are displayed in the framework of the UN campaign “Together for SDGs”, aimed to raise public awareness on SDGs in Iran.

Billboards are result of close cooperation between the Mayor of District 6 of Tehran city, Mr. Azim Babai, Legal Consultant for Housing Union of District 6 of Tehran Municipality Mr. Ali Ahmadi Dastjerdi and UN Information Center.

A year ago, the UN Sustainable Development Summit took place in New York in September, 2015.   The 193 countries of the UN General Assembly, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, adopted a historic document, titled: Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.   This document contains the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a set of 17 aspirational “global Goals”.

His Excellency President Dr. Rohauni was among world leaders who adopted these Goals.   And Iran together with other UN Member States works towards achievement of these Goals by 2030.

These Goals are aimed to make our Planet better and safer to live for us and future generations, exactly as the UN Secretary General said:  “there can be no Plan B, because there is no Planet B.”

The SDGs are universal and apply to all countries regardless of their level of development. 17 Goals have 169 targets covering a broad range of sustainable development issues. These including ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting oceans and forests.

Soon same banners will be displayed for public in the District 3 of Tehran, thanks to the close cooperation between UNIC and Mayor of District 3 Mr. Reza Dbagh, Mayor of Area 5 of District 3 Engineer Mr. Seyyed Alireza Mousavi.
