Azerbaijan keen to work with Iran in int’l campaign against terrorism

Ambassador of Azerbaijan Republic to Tehran Buniyad Huseynov said on Wednesday the Azeri government is willing to cooperate with Iran in international campaign against terrorism and extremism, AVA Diplomatic reports.
He made the remarks in a meeting with head of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Abuzar Ebrahimi Turkman.
He said that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, adding that regular meetings of the Iranian and Azeri presidents in the past three years helped improve relations.
The ambassador said that President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to visit Baku in next several days.
The ambassador said that terrorism and extremism have no connection with Islam.
He deplored the fact that the terrorists perpetrate violence against innocent civilians in the name of Islam, saying that the terrorists have stirred Islamophobia.
Ebrahimi Turkman said that Iran and Azerbaijan republic have unique status in the world in terms cultural affinities and common views toward the international community.
The Iranian official said that Azerbaijan is one of 63 countries that ICRO has two cultural representative offices in Baku and Nakhichevan, adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports cultural ties with Azerbaijan Republic.
Turkman expressed concern about the attempts made by the radicalists to sabotage Iranian closer ties with the Azeri republic.
He said that they sow discord between the two states to create problems, but, the Iranian and Azeri governments would develop cultural relations and strengthen moderate Islam to confront with the extremist trends.
