 South Korea Keen to Expand Trade Ties with Iran

South Korean President Park Geun-hye said the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the six world powers (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany) in Vienna on July 14 has paved the way for the further broadening of cooperation between her country and Iran, AVA Diplomatic reports.

“Under such conditions, we should boost our efforts to improve our trade and economic relations,” the South Korean president said.

She further reiterated that the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and the six world powers created new areas of cooperation with Iran, and said, “This situation should be optimally used.”

President Park underlined that Iran is one of the best markets for South Korea’s products.

The South Korean president called on his country’s officials to make efforts to find new opportunities in the Iranian market.

Geun-hye also underlined that the Vienna nuclear deal has urged other countries to boost their ties with Tehran.

In relevant remarks in past February, former  South Korean Ambassador to Iran Song Woong-yeob announced that Seoul and Tehran were resolved to enhance their bilateral ties in different areas in the near future.

“There are many capacities in South Korea and Iran for boosting interactions,” the South Korean ambassador said in a meeting with economic activists in Qazvin province, Central Iran.

He noted that the two countries have good banking interactions that have resulted in boosting economic exchanges between Seoul and Tehran.

Song urged the South Korean and Iranian companies to boost their mutual cooperation, and said, “A sum of 2,000 Korean companies have economic relations with Iran at present.”
