 Mofid University graduate students become familiar with UN websites

Mofid University Comparative Law Studies Centre and UN Information Center (UNIC) Tehran held a joint workshop on “Finding UN Information and Documentation” for more than 40 graduate students of the international law and human rights on 2 March 2015 in Qom city, AVA Diplomatic reports.

The UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani, who conducted this work shop, elaborated on some basic facts about the UN and briefed the audience about history of the UN and key achievements during its 70th anniversary.

During the workshop the participants learned how to find and retrieve UN information on the UNIC, the UN in Iran, and the UN websites as well as Dag Hammarskjold Library page on the web.

Overview and methods of searching through some of Dag Hammarskjold Library DHL resources and databases including UNBISNET, Official Document System , UN Info Quest were included in the programme of the workshop. The focus was made on UN bodies related to international law and human rights such as International Law Commission, the Human Rights Council, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Treaty Collection and UN Audiovisual Library of International Law were among the legal resources introduced to the participants.

The participants learnt how to locate a multilateral treaty, its status and the related reservations. Persian translations of the UN Charter and UDHR were distributed to the participants.

The chief of Comparative Law Studies Centre Professor Mohammad Mahdi Meghdadi expressed his satisfaction from the workshop and hoped to have more cooperation with UNIC Tehran during the current year which marks 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

One of the participants said: “This workshop is an “eye opening” for me. Before the workshop I had difficulties to find needed information for my thesis on UN web site, but now I am confident that I can easily search UN web site and find all necessary information. I will share my knowledge with my class-mates.”
