Senior MP Stresses Political Approach as Only Solution to Syrian Crisis
Chairman of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi stressed that Tehran still believes that the Syrian crisis can be soothed only through a political solution, AVA Diplomatic reports.
“Iran believes that the Syrian crisis can only be resolved through Syrian-Syrian talks,” Boroujerdi said in a meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmoud in the Iranian capital on Wednesday.
He underlined that Iran will continue its supports for the Syrian government and nation in their resistance against the terrorist groups.
The Syrian ambassador, for his part, appreciated the Iranian government and nation for supporting his country, and said, “The Syrian nation will never forget the backing of Iranian people and officials for the Syrian resistance against the terrorists’ attacks on their country.”
The envoy reiterated that the Syrian government would begin reconstruction of the country soon, and said, “Iran will also play a crucial role in Syria’s reconstruction.”
Earlier this month, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif renewed Tehran’s full support for the Syrian government and nation in their war against the foreign-backed terrorists.
“Iran backs the Syrian government in their ongoing war against terrorism and extremism,” Zarif said in a meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.
The Iranian foreign minister underlined that dialog can play a vital role in fighting against terrorism.
Also in January, Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi appreciated Tehran for its crucial role in supporting his country and the axis of resistance against the Takfiri terrorists.
“Iran has played an important role in strengthening the stability of the axis of resistance against terrorists,” the Syrian prime minister said in a meeting with former Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qassemi in Damascus.
The Syrian prime minister underlined that the support of the Iranian nation and government for the Syrian nation and government has helped the axis of resistance to confront the western and Israeli plots for the region.
Iran and Syria have had close ties in the past three decades. Syria was one of the most important partners of Tehran in war time with Iraq (1980-1988), during which Damascus closed the Iraqi oil pipeline carrying the country’s crude to the European markets.
Iran have also held some conferences to find a peaceful way to end ongoing bloodshed in the Muslim country.
