Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the only way to stand up to the “acquisitiveness” of hegemonic powers is to promote cooperation among independent nations, AVA Diplomatic reports.The Iranian chief executive made the comment in separate meetings with the new Uruguayan ambassadors to Tehran as he submitted his credential to the Iranian president.
President Ahmadinejad underlined that Iran and Uruguay have common ground on a whole range of issues.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and Uruguay have many commonalities as all of them want peace, justice, friendship and progress for all nations, and there is no negative background in our cooperation,” he said.
The president further emphasized the importance of Iran’s closer cooperation with Uruguay.
“The Iranian and Uruguayan nations are hardworking, and there is no limit to the expansion of their relations. All that has to be done is to well tap into the [existing] potential,” he explained.
President Ahmadinejad underlined that hegemonic powers wouldn’t like to see independent nations make progress, saying independent states need to join hands to establish global peace and a just world order to help spur their own development.
The new Uruguayan ambassador described relations between his country and Iran as positive, and added there is huge potential for the enhancement of reciprocal ties.
