Ugandan Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Ahmad Kissule called for Iran’s increased activities in his country, and said that the necessary grounds are prepared for Iranian investment, AVA Diplomatic reports.“There are huge potentials in Uganda to broaden economic relations with Iran,” the Ugandan envoy said, addressing a conference in the Central city of Qom.
He described Iran a big country with huge and untapped economic opportunities, and said, “These opportunities are quite suitable for tourism.”
He went on to say that Uganda is located at the heart of Africa and makes access to African countries possible for investors.
He pointed to discovery of oil fields in Uganda, and said, “The country needs investment in fields of extraction, production, transportation, refinery, marketing and distribution.
He said that construction of residential units and educational and treatment centers are among other opportunities for investment in his country.
“Ugandan embassy in Tehran plans to help remove existing barriers through close cooperation with the Iranian foreign ministry,” he said.
In February, Ugandan Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga in a meeting with her Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani in Tehran praised Iran for playing a very effective role in reinforcing solidarity among the Muslim states during its presidency over the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
“Iran’s rotating presidency over the OIC Inter-Parliamentary Union will result in the reinvigoration of solidarity among Muslim countries,” Kadaga said.
Kadaga pointed to the status-quo in the Iran-Uganda relations, and said, “The government and parliament of Uganda want expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries in agricultural, scientific and technological fields.”
The Iranian parliament speaker, for his part, said that Iran and Uganda have good and growing relations, adding that the Iranian parliament will support the bolstering of bilateral relations.
