Danish Ambassador Says Sanctions Harmful for All

Danish Ambassador to Tehran Anders Christian Hougaard said in Tehran that Denmark suffered from the sanctions imposed on Iran, AVA Diplomatic reports.“The reality is that we consider Iran as an important partner in the volatile Middle East region and accordingly Iran needs the European Union, “Hougaard said in an address to a ceremony marking 80th anniversary of establishment of relations between Iran and Denmark.
He said relations between Iran and Denmark are age-old and since 1934 we have had an Embassy in Tehran with envoys and commercial and trade delegations from Denmark visiting the country to follow up different issues such as building north-south railway.ˈ
Diplomatic relations between the two countries have seen many ups and downs in different eras, said the diplomat.
Hougaard referred to recent presidential elections in Iran which resulted in coming to power of Dr. Hassan Rouhani and affecting international political atmosphere.
The Danish envoy said commercial and economic relations between Iran and Denmark should further expand and the two countries can be good economic partners for each other.
Pointing to the nuclear issue, he said sanctions have been harmful to all.
As for Syria, he said a small country like Denmark and a regional power like Iran can solve crisis in Syria through mutual cooperation.
He said both Iran and Denmark enjoy diverse grounds for cooperation and campaign against Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea is among other examples of cooperation between the two countries.
