Bangladeshi envoy meets delegation from Zanjan chamber

In a move to improve trade balance between Bangladesh and Iran, the Bangladeshi ambassador to Tehran met a delegation from Zanjan Chamber of Commerce (ZCC), AVA Diplomatic reports.Noting the existing figures, Gholamhossein Jamili call the trade between Zanjan and Bangladesh zero, expressing hope the visit can lay the groundwork for the expansion of trade ties between traders of the two sides.

He called lead, zinc and copper the Province’s main export advantages. “Given the fact that Zanjan produces 75 percent of the lead and zinc needed in Iran, the Province can play an important role in exporting these products to Bangladesh. Moreover, given Bangladesh’s needs and imports, mines of decorative stones can be one of the reliable trade exchanges between the sides,” he said.

Later in the meeting, the Bangladeshi envoy said his visit was meant to expand bilateral ties between Iran and Bangladesh. “In the past three years, the trade relations between Iran and Bangladesh have had a falling trend and we are trying to visit different cities to meet the chairmen of their commerce chambers and traders in order to establish solid trade diplomacy between the two countries,” Khandakar Abdul Sattar said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted that Bangladesh exports medicine to 67 countries in the world. “Our country’s drugs are mostly licensed by European countries and we can be involved in drug trade with Iran. Furthermore, Bangladesh’s clothing sector is also well-known in the world in terms of quality and price and we can export are manufactured clothing to Iran with a reasonable price,” he added.

The Bangladeshi ambassador called his countries cultural relations with Iran quite age-old, stressing that due to marriages of Iranian nationals with Bangladeshi people in the past, good relations have been established between the two nations and that could provide good grounds for expansion of bilateral interactions.
