Obama took initiative for Rouhani call: former French envoy

In an interview with France 24, former French ambassador to Tehran François Nicoullaud calls the telephone conversation between the presidents of Iran and the United States an unprecedented event, AVA Diplomatic reports.France 24 described the Friday phone conversation between Obama and Rouhani as end to three decades of political silence between Iran and the US
When asked how important the phone conversation was, Nicoullaud said it was “astonishing and unprecedented”.
“It is perfect, because Obama was clearly disappointed after he could not shake hands with Rouhani in UN headquarters as he had spent some busy days in UN building put the opportunity for a handshake did not come up”, said the former French ambassador to Iran.
“It was clear that Obama wanted to do something and even though he did not say he had called Rouhani, I am sure the US President took the initiative for that,” Nicoullaud said.
