 Turkey appoints new envoy to Iran

Derya Ors has been appointed as the new ambassador of Turkey to Tehran, Turkish media reported. Professor Ors has been the head of the Ataturk High Council of Culture, Language and History, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Ors, who speaks Persian language fluently, played the role of interpreter at meetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with Iranian officials.

The appointment became official when Iran approved it as the new envoy and President Erdogan signed his credentials.

Ors replaces Reza Hakan and is expected to begin his mission in Tehran soon.

Under the new presidential system in Turkey that has been adopted since three months ago, more than 10 individuals who had not been staff of Turkey’s foreign ministry were appointed as ambassadors to other countries.
