Meaningful dialogue only way to solve problems: ex-Pak envoy
Pakistan’s former ambassador to Tehran said that dialogue is the only way to solve problems, however, it should be result-oriented and not to impose one’s will on the other, AVA Diplomatic reports.
Chairman of Pakistan’s Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad (ISSI) Khalid Mehmood, said that it is good that US President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness for dialogue with Iran, but he has to respect for the sovereign equality of the other party.
US President Donald Trump has said the US is ready to hold talks with Iran without any precondition.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi in reaction to the statement said Islamic Republic of Iran’s logic is based on dialogue and interaction, demanding mutual respect and compliance with the international commitments, in contrast to sanctions and pressures.
He added that the fact that Trump has decided to change his rhetoric against Iran and abandon language of threat reveals his disappointment with the fruitless rhetoric.
Expressing his views, Khalid Mehmood said ‘we have the example of Trump’s summit’ with North Korean leader, he always blows hot and cold but one has to read through his message.
“No one can object to negotiations to solve a problem, but it should be unconditional,” said the analyst.
He added that it is a good thing to solve problems through negotiations provided they are not meant to impose one’s will on the other and that they are based on respect for the sovereign equality of the other party and they should be result oriented.
