Afghan students become more familiar with the UN System
A training session on peace and security and the issue of migration was held for some 25 members of Afghan Association of International Peace Studies on 19 July 2018 at the UN office in Tehran, AVA Diplomatic reports.
The Afghan participants who are graduate students of Iranian universities were briefed by UNIC Reference Assistant, Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami-Farahani about retrieving information from UNIC and UN websites on basic facts about the UN as well as peacekeeping issues.
International Organization for Migration (IOM) Officer-in-Charge Dr. Mohammad Safari who was invited by UNIC, briefed the participants on IOM and the issue of migration as well as the “Global Compact for Migration” which is expected to be the first, intergovernmental negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, to cover all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner. The participants raised many questions about this issue. Dr Safari responded to the questions and offered another session exclusively with IOM.
Then UNIC former intern Ms. Nayab Nikzad introduced different UN agencies in Iran. UNIC current intern Ms. Shadi Rouhshahbaz joined Ms. Nikzad and they both briefed the participants on some opportunities that they can benefit from such as UN careers, UN Volunteer Programme, UN University and University for Peaceand shared their own experiences from the times of their internship with UNIC.
The Secretary of the Afghan Association of International Peace Studies Mr. Mostafa Kaboli thanked UNIC for organizing the session.
Persian language copies of the UN Charter and the UN System Chart and the card with UNIC social media accounts were distributed to the participants.
