Finding information on the UN Secretariat and the Secretary-General

In a joint event held by the Iranian Association of UN Studies (IAUNS) and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC)-Tehran, some 15 researchers, students and members of IAUNS were briefed about retrieving the UN-related information and documentation with a focus on the UN Secretary-General and the Secretariat on 6 March 2018 at the UN building, AVA Diplomatic reports.

UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami elaborated on an overview of chapter XV of the UN Charter that deals directly with the Secretariat. Then UN Documentation: Secretariat and the most recent report of the UN Secretary-General on “Composition of the Secretariat” which contains a demographic analysis of the staff of  was introduced through the Dag Hammarskjold Library website.

On the webpage of the UN Secretary-General, the issues such as the Senior Management Group that now includes 23 women out of 45 most senior positions within the UN; role of the Secretary-General; former Secretaries-General and reports of the Secretary-General on the work of the organization were discussed.

Copies of the UN Charter and the UN System Chart in Persian were distributed among participants.
