 3rd Thailand, Iran political consultations held in Bangkok

The 3rd Thailand, Iran political consultations at the level of directors general of Foreign Ministries of the two countries was held in Bangkok on Monday, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Director General for East Asia and Pacific Affairs of Foreign Ministry Mahmoud Farazandeh, who is in Bangkok, discussed issues of mutual interests with Thailand Foreign Ministry Director General for South Asian, the Middle East and African Affairs Krerkpan Roekchamnong.

In the meeting, Iran’s Ambassador to Thailand Mohsen Mohammadi and Thailand Ambassador to Tehran Kalayana Vepathi Pumi Pratz were present as well.

The two sides discussed different dimensions of bilateral ties, the need for more efforts by both sides to develop economic and trade relations.

Roekchamnong extended Thai’s government and people condolences for Sunday earthquake in west of Iran and expressed sympathy with bereaved families.

He pointed to 400 years background in mutual relations without any problem and called this very good support for continuation of bilateral ties.

Farazandeh also called President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Thailand in October 2016 as turning-point in bilateral relations.

He pointed to the signed documents during the visit and said that ties had noticeable expansion in the past one year.

The Iranian diplomat underlined the need for Thais officials ‘ effort to remove remaining obstacles in the way of increasing economic interactions, such as banking issues.

The two sides also discussed regional and international developments like Syria, Iraq, Lebanon as well as Southeast Asia, including developments in Myanmar.

Farazandeh condemned genocide of Muslims by extremist Buddhists in Myanmar.

He called on Thailand as neighbor of Myanmar to continue its efforts to retrieve the people’s rights.

The Iranian diplomat scheduled to meet with deputy foreign minister and officials from Thailand Central Bank to discuss and consult on ways to develop bilateral ties in different dimensions.
