 Discussion on UN Peacekeeping Efforts with Iranian Association of UN Studies

Students Committee of the Iranian Association of UN Studies (IAUNS) in cooperation with the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) held a discussion on UN Peacekeeping efforts and film screening for some 50 students and members of the Association at the UN Office on 17 November 2016, AVA Diplomatic reports.

A film on UN peacekeeping “United Nations Last Station Before Hell” was followed by discussion, led by three university professors Dr. Mohsen Abdolahi from Shahid Beheshti University, Dr. Pouria Askari from Allameh Tabatabaei University and Dr. Amir Saed Vakil from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs School of International Studies.

The event was opened by IAUNS President Dr. Nasrin Mosaffa. Then UNIC Director Dr. Maria Dotsenko briefed the participants on the history of the UN peacekeeping and some facts and figures about it.

Film “UN Last Station before Hell” had been produced on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the UN and it explores challenging issues of peacekeeping through field investigations and interviews with key decision-makers in UN peacekeeping”.

After the film screening, Dr. Abdolahi, Dr. Askari and Dr. Vakil led the discussion on creation and functioning of the UN peacekeepers.

Ms. Sahar Tafreshi the head of the Student Committee of IAUNS who organized the programme, thanked UNIC for supporting the committee and hoped that they can have more joint events with UNIC.
