 Seminar and photo exhibition on International Day of Peace

The Cultural Institute of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Tehran commemorated International Day of Peace by holding a seminar and UN-Iran partnership photo exhibition at the Institute’s premises on Sunday 30 September 2018, AVA Diplomatic reports.

Foreign diplomats stationed in Tehran as well as Iranian celebrities and intellectuals attended the seminar whose speakers were President of ECO Cultural Institute Dr Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri, UNIC Director Dr Maria Dotsenko and Director General of the Department of International Peace and Security of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Reza Najafi as well as Iranian poet Yartan Yaran.

Referring to the 2018 Theme of International Day of Peace namely “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”, Dr Dotsenko said the theme celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

She pointed out that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document in the history of human rights.

“Iran’s initiative to host in Tehran the First International Human Rights Conference in April 1968 was supported by the UN Member States at the General Assembly,” she said.  She also briefed the audience on the history of International Peace Day.

After delivering her speech, UNIC Director read the United Nations Secretary-General’s message on the International Day of Peace for the audience.

Master Ney (traditional Iranian flute) player Morteza Nadaf played two pieces for the participants.

An exhibition of UN-Iran Partnership Historical Photos and Documents were opened to the visitors at the end of the seminar.   This exhibition is organized jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IRNA and Etela’at newspaper and is exhibited not only in Tehran, but also in the Provinces in the partnership with IRNA.

The UN promotional materials were distributed to seminar participants as well as the visitors of the exhibition.
