Tafresh University Professors briefed on the UN

UNIC together with Tafresh University held a session on “Finding UN Information” for some 25 professors from different faculties such as Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering and Faculty of Physics on 26 October 2016 at the UN conference room, AVA Diplomatic reports.

At the beginning, UNIC Director Dr. Maria Dotsenko welcomed the audience and hoped for mutual cooperation. She suggested the idea of exhibiting the UN Historic Photos at Tafresh University.

The next speaker was University of Tehran professor Dr. Nasrin Mosaffa who organized the programme. She believes that the Iranian academia should expand their knowledge about international organizations such as the United Nations.

Then UNIC Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghmi elaborated on basic facts about the UN, UN General Assembly and its resolutions on UN observances including one which named 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies, 2014 as the International Year of Crystallography, 2012 as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry and 2005 as International Year of Physics.

Then she briefed the participants on high-level meetings of General Assembly in 2015, namely Sustainable Development Summit and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Among the 17 goals, she focused on goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all and introduced UN-Energy knowledge network to the participants. Introducing the United Nations Academic Impact, Ms. Ghaemmaghamai hoped that Tafresh University becomes one of the members of this global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in furthering the realization of the purposes and mandate of the Organization through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility.

Tafresh University Research Manager Dr. Soheil Vasheghani hoped that the university can have more cooperation with UNIC as well as the other UN agencies in Iran.
