Banners promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are now on display at Tehran Railway Station sending the message about SDGs for millions of passengers who travel to different parts of Iran, AVA Diplomatic reports.
These banners are erected in the framework of “Together for SDGs” public awareness campaign, which was launched in September 2016. The campaign was initiated by Iranian celebrities (famous movie and theater actors and film directors) who advocate on SDGs in their video messages.
The banners at the Railway Station are result of cooperation and partnership between UNIC Tehran and Deputy Minister and Managing Director of Iran Railroad Engineer Reza Shakeri, Deputy in charge of passengers of Tehran Railroad Office Engineer Alireza Monadi, Managing Director of Public Relations Department of the Islamic Republic Railroad Office Sadeq Sekri, Managing Director of Art Picture Science Institute Kamran Lotfian, Sales Manager of Negin Sepehr Saman Co. Misaq Sabet and Designer Mohammad Ramezani.
A year ago, the UN Sustainable Development Summit took place in New York in September, 2015. The 193 countries of the UN General Assembly, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, adopted a historic document, titled: Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This document contains the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a set of 17 aspirational “global Goals”.
His Excellency President Dr. Rohauni was among world leaders who adopted these Goals. And Iran together with other UN Member States works towards achievement of these Goals by 2030.
These Goals are aimed to make our Planet better and safer to live for us and future generations, exactly as the UN Secretary General said: “there can be no Plan B, because there is no Planet B.”
The SDGs are universal and apply to all countries regardless of their level of development. 17 Goals have 169 targets covering a broad range of sustainable development issues. These including ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting oceans and forests.
