Finding UN Information Workshop for students from Garmsar

Some 10 graduate students of Political Geography and Tourism Geography from Azad University-Garmsar branch gathered at the UN office on 28 April 2016 to get more familiar with the UN and how to find information about this international organization from its website, AVA Diplomatic reports.
The Reference Assistant Ms. Nazanin Ghaemmaghami from UN Information Center in Tehran elaborated on basic facts about the UN, structure and organization, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and ecotourism, UNESCO and cultural tourism and UNWTO. UN in Iran and UNIC websites were also introduced.
The discussion focused on two subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) namely United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names (UNGEGN) and UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UNGGIM). One of the working papers of UNGEGN entitled “Historical, Geographical and Legal Validity of the Name: Persian Gulf” was introduced to the participants. Dag Hammarskjold Library’s webpage on Maps, Flags and Boundaries was also reviewed.
“It was useful to get more familiar with the UN System and learn to retrieve UN information and documentation from UN and UNIC websites,” said PhD student Iman Mohseninia, the organizer and participant of the workshop.
